Greeley Tribune
Nathan C. Meeker, who wrote about agriculture for Horace Greeley at the New York Tribune, started the Greeley Tribune in 1870. The inaugural issue hit the stands on November 16, 1870. Initially, the Tribune was a weekly newspaper until 1908, when it transitioned to a daily publication. In 1913, the Tribune expanded by acquiring two additional daily newspapers in Greeley.

The University of Northern Colorado Board of Trustees approved a $219 million operating budget for its upcoming fiscal year 2025-26, and it’s a spreadsheet including tuition increases both for undergraduate and graduate students. The approved budget, which came Friday at the board’s meeting on campus in Greeley, aligned with the preliminary version presented last month. It takes effect July 1.

Saying he has “a lot of gas left in my tank,” Northern Colorado men’s basketball coach Steve Smiley expressed plenty of joy to continue his work with the Bears for an additional three years. Smiley, 44 and the program’s winningest head coach in the Division I era, earned a contract raise and extension Friday. The UNC board of trustees approved a new deal keeping Smiley in Greeley through 2030. Smiley will start his sixth season this year.

To be eligible for the appointment, a candidate must be at least 18 years old, and a registered voter in the Aims district for at least 12 consecutive months before the appointment. The candidate also must be a resident of District E, which is one of five districts overseen by the board, and is comprised of the Weld RE-5J School District (Johnstown and Milliken) and Greeley-Evans School District 6.
