    The city of Birmingham is partnering with Faith Chapel Care Center to combat homelessness. The partnerships are a part of the Home for All project, which was launched in 2023. Faith Chapel Care Center will be the site of 15 micro-shelters that the homeless can stay in. The care center is currently open for half a day on Tuesdays, Thursdays and Saturdays, and provides resources such as showers, meals, laundry services and case management.

    The Creekside Homewood development will go before the Homewood City Council this evening for a vote on the next steps on the project. The city's planning commission recommended the project go to council in a 6-3 vote. City councilor Jennifer Andress was one of the no votes, citing concerns about the size of one of the developments.

    Homeschooled students in Alabama may have an opportunity to participate in career in technical education programs. House Bill 61 is aimed at providing this for homeschoolers. The bill is headed to the Senate after passing through the Alabama House on Tuesday. Full-time, standalone CTE schools do not have to opt-in and allow homeschoolers to enroll. Homeschoolers would also have to wait for public school students to be accommodated before being accepted.

    The Alabama Department of Human Resources receives over 26,500 reports of child abuse annually. The Child Welfare League of America reported that 11,618 children were victims of neglect in 2022. Despite these numbers, The Prescott House Child Advocacy Center calls abuse and neglect an underreported issue in the state of Alabama. According to the nonprofit, child abuse and neglect numbers are up in comparison to last year.
