CRYSTAL LAKE – Hampshire freshman Langston Kelly has had a knack for making the most of scoring chances early in her career. She did so once again in a critical early moment against Prairie Ridge on Tuesday afternoon. Kelly used her speed to create another scoring chance and give the Whip-Purs an early lead. That’d be all Hampshire needed as it held on to stay undefeated in Fox Valley Conference play with a 1-0 win at the MAC Sports Center. “I just kind of see it and go to it,” Kelly said.

The Joliet Fire Department responded to a residential fire on Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Liberty Street. At approximately 4:50 p.m., fire crews arrived at a two-story single family home and saw heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the residence, according to a release from the fire department. All residents were able to get out of the building and one juvenile was transported to Silver Cross Hospital for evaluation with minor injuries, according to the release.

A Montgomery man was taken into custody Tuesday following a warrant being issued for his arrest for aggravated battery and unlawful use of a weapon among other charges. Donzell L. Washington, 27, of Montgomery, was apprehended in Montgomery on Tuesday by the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office and the U.S. Marshals Service’s Great Lakes Regional Fugitive Task Force. He was taken into custody without incident, according to a news release from the Kendall County Sheriff’s Office.

No one was injured in a barn fire in Yorkville Monday night. The fire remains under investigation. At 8:18 p.m., the Bristol Kendall Fire Protection District responded after a dispatcher reported that the wooden roof of an old barn at a residential property in the 900 block of Lisbon Road had caught fire, according to a release from the fire district. Firefighters arrived to find the roof of a dilapidated barn on fire, according to the release. A home was about 200 feet away from the barn.

SYCAMORE – Sycamore voters will have another question to answer this year, as the Sycamore City Council on Monday approved a plan to place a referendum on the November ballot which could change the City Clerk’s Office from elected to appointed. The General Election is Nov. 5. Mary Kalk holds the position of Sycamore City Clerk currently, and was elected to a second term in 2021. She was first elected to the office in April 2017, beating out four other candidates. She ran unopposed in 2021.

On Monday’s episode of the reality singing competition series, the pop star and longtime “Idol” judge’s structured silver top appeared to break apart. To be safe, Perry held her clothing against herself with her arms and even used a pillow for extra coverage at one point.

A McHenry nurse accused of going to work drunk last year at a Crystal Lake long-term care facility pleaded guilty Tuesday and was sentenced to 30 months of probation, public service and fines. Angela Hutchison, 48, pleaded guilty to one count of criminal neglect of a long-term health care facility resident, a Class 4 felony, according to McHenry County court records. As part of the plea deal, an additional count of the same charge was dismissed.

The Peru hospital has been reopened, but OSF HealthCare warned Tuesday tough times remain for rural hospitals. At a town hall in Ottawa, A.J. Querciagrossa, CEO of OSF’s western region, said the popular perception is rural health care was squeezed by the novel coronavirus, but in fact trends were spotted years before anybody heard of COVID-19. Those problems continue, and more than 400 hospitals are in danger of closing.

A vehicle and a residence in Joliet Township was damaged by gunfire. At 5:20 p.m. on Saturday, Will County sheriff’s deputies were sent to a residence on Algonquin Street for a report of a six to 15 shots that were fired, according to a statement from Will County Sheriff’s Office. A witness saw an SUV at the time of the shooting, police said.
