The Joliet Fire Department responded to a residential fire on Tuesday afternoon in the 500 block of Liberty Street. At approximately 4:50 p.m., fire crews arrived at a two-story single family home and saw heavy smoke and fire showing from the rear of the residence, according to a release from the fire department. All residents were able to get out of the building and one juvenile was transported to Silver Cross Hospital for evaluation with minor injuries, according to the release.

A tornado watch has been issued until 10 p.m. Tuesday for parts of DeKalb, La Salle, Lee, Ogle, Boone and Winnebago counties, according to the National Weather Service. The alert was issued at 5:50 p.m. Tuesday. A tornado watch means severe thunderstorms could bring the potential for tornadoes to occur, and residents should be prepared for the possibility that alerts may evolve into warnings.

OREGON – The Black Hawk Players, all residents or former residents of Oregon, presented their rendition of Maurice Maeterlinck’s play, “The Blind,” at Taft Campus Dining Hall, on Sunday, April 14, to an enthusiastic luncheon audience. The afternoon’s events was for the benefit of a maintenance fund to the Eternal Indian, known popularly as the Black Hawk Statue by Lorado Taft. The statue is located in Lowden State Park, north of Oregon.

ROCK FALLS – The traffic charges against the teen driver of a pickup truck that investigators said failed to stop at an intersection on March 28, resulting in the deaths of his three teen passengers, have been dismissed for now. That’s because the investigation into the cause of the crash is continuing. This is a common process when a person involved in a fatal traffic crash is charged with a traffic violation.

SYCAMORE – Dozens gathered Tuesday in front of the DeKalb County Courthouse in Sycamore to raise awareness for National Child Abuse Prevention Month, hosted by area agencies that work to put children’s needs first. The annual event, called Hands Around the Courthouse, was hosted by CASA DeKalb County, which provides trained advocates for children involved in the court system due to parental or guardian abuse or neglect.
