LAKE ERIE BEACH, N.Y. — Now that there has been the tease of spring-like weather in Western New York, people have begun wandering out to the Lake Erie shoreline to catch some fresh air. But much to their chagrin, they're catching the sight and smell of dead Alewife fish all along the shore. 2 On Your Side has received reports from Woodlawn Beach, Hamburg Beach, Wendt Beach, and private properties that call Lake Erie home saying the shore has been inundated with dead fish.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As city lawmakers prepare to debate acting Mayor Chris Scanlon's 2025-2026 budget, curtailing rising health care costs will be a priority during negotiations. BUFFALO, N.Y. — Acting Mayor Chris Scanlon unveiled his $622M city budget for the 2025-2026 fiscal year Tuesday afternoon. That figure is just under a 1% spending increase compared to the current fiscal year. "Upon becoming mayor, I inherited a $17 million mid-year shortfall for financial year 24-25 and what turned out to be more than a $70 million structural deficit for spending year 25-26," Scanlon said. Scanlon assumed office when Byron Brown stepped down mid-term in October 2024.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — As the race for Buffalo mayor continues to heat up, the war of words continues between acting Mayor Chris Scanlon and NYS Senator Sean Ryan. This time, it's over the proposed bed tax. Part of the proposed 2025-2026 budget for the City of Buffalo, acting Mayor Chris Scanlon is calling for a 3% bed tax for hotels. Lawmakers in Albany would need to approve the measure. On Friday, both candidates held press conferences to lay out their thoughts about the plan.
