    SIOUX FALLS — Mitchell Christian’s Silas Holdeman ended his Class B state track and field meet the same way he did last year, with two gold medals draped around his neck. After winning the Class B boys 3,200-meter run on Friday, Holdeman captured his second first-place finish of the state meet on Saturday, winning his second-straight Class B boys 1,600-meter run by almost a full three seconds.

    SIOUX FALLS — Trinity Bietz collected plenty of hardware at her final state high school track and field championships. The Scotland/Menno senior was named the Class A girls field MVP following her performances from the first two days of competition, including her double championship in the shot put and discus on Friday. Putting the accomplishment into perspective, Bietz was happy to finish her time with the Trappers on the top step of the podium.

    SIOUX FALLS — At the end of the Class AA state track and field meet on Saturday at Howard Wood Field, the Mitchell High School boys track and field team finished in a tie for 14th place in the 19-team event. The Kernels collected 17 points over the three-day competition, tying with Sioux Falls O’Gorman. Sioux Falls Lincoln won the boys team title with 120 points, only a half point ahead of Brandon Valley (119.5).

Heading into the last 100 meters of the Class B boys 800-meter run final on Friday at Howard Wood Field in Sioux Falls, Wollmann was hot on the heels of Jones County's Adrik Schoon, who took the lead over Mitchell Christian's Silas Holdeman with about 200 meters to go.
