I always tell people I became a journalist by accident. It's not that I didn't enjoy being a reporter, photographer, editor and business manager for my high school's student newspaper. But at the time, the popular TV show "CSI" had just started airing, and I was enthralled. I wanted to be a crime scene investigator and/or a forensic scientist whose work would track down the bad guy.

Police arrested a Columbus man Friday on a murder charge in connection to a January 2023 homicide on the city's North Side, a day after a woman pleaded guilty and was sentenced in the case. Columbus Police SWAT officers arrested Nehemiah Isom Garnett, 21, of the city's Southeast Side, on a warrant for murder in the Jan. 9, 2023, shooting death of Juan Pablo Aleman, 40, according to a news release.

Columbus Zoo and Aquarium officials have filed lawsuits seeking foreclosure on the homes of at least three former executives as part of restitution they owe for their roles in a multiyear scheme to defraud the zoo and taxpayers of almost $2.3 million. The zoo filed complaints for foreclosure of judgment liens this week against former CEO Tom Stalf, former Chief Financial Officer Greg Bell and former marketing director Peter Fingerhut.

(This story was updated to accurately reflect the most current information.)Columbus community leaders are condemning armed neo-Nazis marching Saturday afternoon, using racial slurs toward people of color and shouting about Jewish people and white power. Several videos began popping up around 1:15 p.m. Saturday on social media of about a dozen people, one with a bullhorn, wearing all black with red facemasks and carrying black flags with red swastikas on them in the Short North.
