There was little outcry, certainly barely a whiff of protestation. No surprise, no shock, it was an outcome which had long been glaringly obvious. Most damning of all, many applauded the decision.

Although the sporting director is convinced the relentlessness and physicality of the modern game is a pivotal factor behind ongoing availability issues. It has been another Blues season devastated by injuries, particularly key players - and certainly in the centre of defence.

And the classy Blues head coach refuses to take any pleasure in the fact the Australian will now be in League One next season. Frustratingly, Robertson rejected a permanent move to Fratton Park in August 2024 after Manchester City had accepted a bid.

The Somerstown defender was without a club until the end of August after his Blues releaseHe represents a rare Football League success story for Pompey’s Academy in recent times. Certainly the Somerstown lad has proven a number of people wrong, having struggled to find a club last summer only to establish himself as a regular in a side which finished eighth in League Two.
