Missing person: Santa Maria man missing since June

It’s been over two months since a Santa Maria man was reported missing after being last seen in Idaho, and the family is desperate for answers. 29-year-old Edgar Vera Aquino was reported missing on June 9th in a remote area of Fremont County, Idaho, about two hours west of Yellowstone National Park. According to his former employer in the Santa Maria area, Aquino and his eight-year-old daughter were helping him move to Montana the first week of June.
Local repair shops: Some companies not complying with Right to Repair Act

Local repair shops say electronics manufacturers are not following a new law, meant to eliminate intentional barriers currently in place that make it difficult for them to do their jobs fairly. Nearly two months after going into effect, the conditions of SB-244, the Right to Repair Act, are not being followed by some manufacturers, that's according to a couple local repair shops.

Several people living in New Cuyama tell KSBY they’ve had spotty and sometimes nonexistent cell phone service, and there’s a common denominator: their provider. “They’re telling us to upgrade our sim card, or that we’re the only one having this issue,” said Jack Forinash of New Cuyama.
Judge denies DA motion to withdraw plea deal in SLO County assault case

San Luis Obispo County District Attorney Dan Dow says a victim's rights were violated when a prosecutor in his office failed to notify the victim of a plea deal in her case. But on Wednesday, a judge denied Dow's motion to withdraw the deal. In December 2022, a burglary was reported at the SeaCrest Oceanfront Hotel in Pismo Beach. Pismo Beach Police Officer Erin Logoluso responded and when she approached the suspect, Shawn DeLaittre, DeLaittre assaulted her.
Honor Flight cancels fall trip due to flight scheduling issues

Airline changes at SLO County Airport have prompted the organization to postpone the trip that allows veterans to travel to Washington D.C. to visit war memorials. That means the next honor flight won’t be taking off until next spring at the Santa Maria Public Airport. “If we have to wait until next May, I don’t know how I’m going to be. There’s no way to tell,” said 99-year-old World War II Navy veteran, Bill Root, from Santa Maria.

The inaugural class of the Cuesta College Aviation Maintenance Technician program walked across the stage Friday in the Cuesta AMT Hangar. The 18-month AMT program, in partnership with Cuesta College, ACI Jet and the County of San Luis Obispo, gave students hands-on, real-life experience they can use as future aviation maintenance technicians. The program includes general, airframe and powerplant maintenance subjects required by the Federal Aviation Administration to become a technician.

Two people are dead after a head-on collision on the 46 East after midnight

A driver and passenger in a Hyundai died on the scene after crashing into an oncoming Ford truck around midnight. The crash was reported to have happened on the 46 East, four miles east of the Cholame Y. According to Templeton CHP, the Hyundai attempted to pass a tractor trailer and drove into the opposing lane. It then collided head-on at an unknown speed with the truck. As a result, both the driver and passenger in the Hyundai sustained fatal injuries and were reported dead on the scene.
How the Hurricane Fire could lead to a potential superbloom next year

The Hurricane Fire that broke out in eastern San Luis Obispo County over the weekend is almost fully contained after spreading to more than 12,000 acres in just 24 hours. The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) believes the fire was ignited Saturday morning by a lightning storm high in the Temblor Range.

The Central Coast Veterans Memorial Museum is hosting their 2nd annual Korean War Veterans Meetup Saturday at the SLO Vets Hall. Coffee and pastries will be served beginning at 10:00 a.m., followed by lunch at 11:30 a.m. served by American Legion Post 66. Last year, the museum hosted a coffee meetup to mark the 70th anniversary of the Korean War Armistice Agreement, which essentially ending the Korean War (1950-1953).
