The first thing that came to my mind when I finished reading Ron Frisk’s opinion piece, “The continuing assault on truth,” was the old saying beware of those bringing gifts. As is the usual case with Ron and others, he writes a very polished piece with just enough facts to make you think he’s on the up and up, but alas, that again is not the truth. Unless Ron has changed his stripes, he’s still a Trump supporter.

Early in January, President Biden signed into law the Social Security Fairness Act, which increases Social Security benefits for firefighters, cops, teachers, and other public employees in every community in the US, including New Braunfels and Comal County. This act abolishes the pension offset for public employees and passed in both the US House and Senate with bipartisan support.

I find the despair since Donald Trump re-election unpalatable. People are genuinely scared about what the next four years might entail. Some are even afraid for their lives. What I want to say to people is similar to what I’ve said to many young officers, NCOs and Airmen who I had the privilege of mentoring during my 26-year Air Force career. My message was basically, your boss may be incompetent, he or she may not care for the people who are assigned under them, and may even treat them terribly.

On Jan. 29, 1886, Karl Benz received the patent # 37435. In the fall of 1885, the world’s first water-cooled gasoline engine automobile (horseless carriage) rolled down the streets in Mannheim, Germany. An effective gasoline motor engine, a four-stroke internal combustion engine, the first engine to efficiently burn fuel directly in a piston chamber was invented by Nikolaus August Otto in 1876 in Germany. Benz developed his own design.

The Texas Water Company will be submitting its triennial Water Availability Report to the Comal County Commissioners Court in 2025. In reading the 2022 report and appendices, I concluded it did not take into account drought conditions, the impact drought has on water availability and a growing county population. These are critical aspects that need to be taken into consideration for the 2025 report.
