SINGAPORE – Singaporeans are being encouraged to make a small monthly donation under a new national regular giving programme launched on Jan 18. Called SGSHARE, the programme was launched to commemorate SG60 – the 60th anniversary of Singapore’s of independence. The new initiative builds on the Community Chest’s SHARE programme, which was launched in 1984 and encourages individuals and employees to donate a small amount of their monthly pay to charity.

SINGAPORE – The cost of living is an issue many Singaporeans are anxious about, and the Government has taken steps to help people cope and ensure that no one is left behind, Senior Minister Lee Hsien Loong said on Jan 18. He added that more assistance is on the way this year, with Prime Minister Lawrence Wong delivering the Budget statement in Parliament in February.

SINGAPORE – The occupancy caps of 91 private residential properties were breached during a period of about nine months in 2024, with two exceeding a limit that was eased temporarily to cool the home rental market. National Development Minister Desmond Lee told Parliament in a written reply on Jan 8 that from Jan 22, 2024 to Oct 31 that year, 415 complaints involving alleged breaches of the occupancy cap in private residential properties were investigated by the Urban Redevelopment Authority.

SINGAPORE – The owners of Golden Mile Tower in Beach Road have been offered bonus gross floor area by the authorities if the complex is redeveloped, provided that the commercial complex’s iconic cinema block is conserved. The offer from the Urban Redevelopment Authority (URA) comes amid an ongoing collective sale exercise for the strata-titled development, which comprises an 18-storey office tower on top of a six-storey retail and carpark podium which houses the cinema block.
