The NSW premier is offering to bolster the NSW Crime Commission so it can pursue former Labor minister Eddie Obeid over $30 million of "ill-gotten gains". Chris Minns said the government is prepared to boost funding to the commission to ensure Obeid cannot keep the cash he made from a corrupt coal licence deal. "There's acts of big public corruption, someone's made a motza out of it [and] we're going to chase them," Mr Minns said.

When Private Alister Ross placed a Bible in his breast pocket at Gallipoli in 1915, he may have been hoping for divine guidance. Instead, the pages of the 'good book' saved his life, by shielding him from shrapnel. Brad Manera, senior historian and curator at Sydney's Anzac Memorial, said Private Ross was "incredibly lucky". "The Bible took the energy from the shrapnel ball and saved his life," he said.
