    When Private Alister Ross placed a Bible in his breast pocket at Gallipoli in 1915, he may have been hoping for divine guidance. Instead, the pages of the 'good book' saved his life, by shielding him from shrapnel. Brad Manera, senior historian and curator at Sydney's Anzac Memorial, said Private Ross was "incredibly lucky". "The Bible took the energy from the shrapnel ball and saved his life," he said.
