These workshops are mainly held during the month of May, which is Mental Health Awareness month, however they should be prioritized year-round.

Popping wheelies and swerving cars in the parking lot are how these high school students from Bellflower choose to spend their Thanksgiving break, biking around the Liberal Arts Campus while others sat in their classroom receiving instruction. The group who calls themselves “The B Town Hittas” said Long Beach sits at the top of cities where they ride due to the large amount of bike lanes and bike infrastructure in the city.

Freshly baked empanadas, pan dulce and homemade refreshments were among the goods sold by LBCC culinary arts students at their Dia de Los Muertos bake sale held at LAC on Thursday. The bake sale took place between the T and V buildings, a placement which was intentional according to those who were organizing and running the event. “We wanted to be in a spot where we would get good foot traffic,’” Julio Maya, a culinary arts student who helped organize the event said.

Bustling with early voters looking to cast their votes for the upcoming election, LBCC’s early voting center opened Saturday in the T building on the Liberal Arts Campus. The voting center is accessible to both students and community members who wish to cast their ballots in the 2024 election. The center features electronic voting booths with options for people to cast their ballot in a different language, allowing those who do not speak English as their primary language to vote.

LBCC has implemented a safety initiative called the Campus Safety Escort Program in which campus security is made available to walk students from their classes to their cars after their evening classes. A report on campus safety made during a Board of Trustees meeting in September showed that crime rates have been on a downward trend since 2019, and a majority of the crimes reported were against LBCC property.
