KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — Hundreds of people took to the streets of Kalamazoo Wednesday night to take a stand against gun violence. The march started at Mount Zion Baptist Church in Kalamazoo’s Northside neighborhood and marched toward Park Street. The group stopped in front of the house where Marktavion Perry-Bennett was shot and killed last week. A prayer vigil was held as the group gathered around family on the spot where Perry-Bennett was killed.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo Wings will continue their celebration of 50 years of hockey Saturday night at Wings Event Center, taking on the Toledo Walleye in the Warrior/ECHL Hockey Heritage Game. The K-Wings kicked off the day with interviews with NHL Network and welcomed fans to Fan Fest at the arena. The weekend also included the ECHL Hall of Fame Induction Friday night at the Radisson Plaza Hotel.

KALAMAZOO, Mich. (WOOD) — The city of Kalamazoo is getting a boost from the federal government to study how it can eliminate a set of railroad tracks in downtown Kalamazoo. Right now, there are two sets of tracks that cross both Michigan and Kalamazoo avenues in downtown Kalamazoo. One of those tracks is used to switch trains and it can cause long delays for traffic trying to move through the area.

SCHOOLCRAFT TOWNSHIP, Mich. (WOOD) — The Kalamazoo County Public Housing Commission is celebrating the first of ten new affordable housing units at a mobile home park near Schoolcraft. A ribbon cutting was held Tuesday at the Sugar Loaf Mobile Home Park off Shaver Road near US-131. The homes will go to ten families with school-aged children who’ve experienced homeless and are at 60% the area medium income or below. The community was built with funds from the 2015 housing millage.
