And the team at Aaron Vale’s Thinkslikeahorse has happily leaned into the theme when it comes to his current top grand prix horse and partner for this week’s Longines League of Nations Ocala, Carissimo 25, better known as “Ducky” in the barn. Ducky got his nickname from the collection of rubber ducks that live on the dashboard of owner Debbie Smith’s Jeep.

Caroline Pamukcu is used to being on the go, having competed 18 horses 93 times from beginner novice to advanced in 2024. But she left the show scene in October, as she and her husband Deniz Pamukcu prepared for a new chapter of their life: parenthood. The couple welcomed daughter Blake Pamukcu, who shares a name with Caroline’s Paris Olympic mount HSH Blake, on Jan. 29. “I’ve always wanted to have a family, and I’ve always been super close with my family,” Caroline said.

After declaring that he was not going to go fast on Chin Tonic HS in Saturday’s final cross-country phase of the $100,000 Stirling Venture Capital Grand-Prix Eventing Showcase at Bruce’s Field in Aiken, South Carolina, Will Coleman changed his mind and went for it. As the final rider to go in the class and the leader after Friday’s show jumping and dressage phases, Coleman had a healthy 21-second cushion that did not require him to speed around.

It’s been a busy day for Molly Pellegrini. She and her husband, Hank Pellegrini, 55, were supposed to fly from Philadelphia to Alabama to watch their son Will, 22, play in a college tennis match. However, the couple, married 27 years, had their flight delayed and then rerouted to Atlanta. They missed the tennis match, so Pellegrini was revising their travel plans. They’d rent a car and drive from Atlanta to Auburn University in Alabama, where Will was playing in another match the next day.

When 11-year-old Savanna Springfield and her pony Candy Crush entered the ring for their second round at the ExEL Winter Wonderland Show in Germantown, Tennessee, last December, she had more on her mind than just the order of her fences. The show was the first major outing for “Candy” in almost a year, after a hock injury had left her sidelined for months, but—uncharacteristically—the pony had refused several jumps in their first round, and they were unable to finish the course.

Three years ago, with his two children out on their own and his successful small animal vet practice recently sold, Mark Dorfman decided the time was right to get back into his childhood love of riding horses. Growing up in Long Island, New York, Dorfman rode with Ralph and Holly Caristo at their Glenview Stables. He competed successfully in the junior hunters, equitation and jumpers, first on leased horses and then his own.

Around Christmas, Grand Prix dressage rider Lauren Chumley received a text message from her event rider friend Meg Kepferle. “Can you go to California?” it read. “At this very moment?” was Chumley’s response. While Chumley is a dressage professional, for nearly 15 years she’s dabbled “on the dark side,” in the eventing world, competing up to the two-star level with Atlanta B. She hasn’t competed at the preliminary level or higher since 2021, but she’s been earning to jump the bigger fences again.
