On Campus Car Chase: On Mar. 11, a car chase took place at approximately 4:45 a.m. on lower campus. An alert was sent to the USF community at 5 p.m. later that day, notifying students of the incident. The San Francisco Police Department chased a suspect who entered campus off of Golden Gate Avenue, later exiting on Parker Avenue. According to the campus alert, the entrance gate, which is located between the University Center and War Memorial Gym, was damaged.

The status of the Don has been in jeopardy since a December 2022 resolution from the Associated Students of the University of San Francisco (ASUSF) Senate, inspired by an August 2022 Foghorn editorial. Prompted by the resolution, the University created a task force in August 2023 “to analyze and evaluate the implications and logistics of changing the mascot.” This group meets approximately every month with hopes of making the Don mascot “null and void” by August.

Eileen Chia-Ching Fung has been an integral part of the USF community for more than 25 years. From assisting in the establishment of the Honors College, to serving as associate dean of arts and humanities, she’s worn many hats at USF. Since last fall, Fung has served as the Interim Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs. After the sudden departure of former Provost Chinyere Oparah on May 24, 2023, Fung stepped into the interim provost position.

Historically Black College and Universities (HBCUs) partnerships are coming to San Francisco this summer. At their third annual conference, “Dreaming Forward: Black to San Francisco,” on Feb. 1, The City’s Dream Keeper Initiative invited the public to engage with City officials and stakeholders on accomplishments and hopes for future projects. Partnerships with HBCUs were at the forefront of these conversations.
