SCRANTON, Pa. — The St. Francis of Assisi Kitchen in Scranton helps people every day by serving a hot meal, and they are not taking the holiday off. Volunteers are busy preparing for Easter. "We prep salad, we prep fruit and try to make Selena's job a little easier if we can," volunteer Tom Williams said. "We're gonna have ham, mashed potatoes, a cornbread stuffing, green beans, cranberry sauce, rolls, a really nice spread that day," Head Chef Selena Gonzalez said.
Easter rush at Oprisko Kielbasa in Lackawanna County

CARBONDALE, Pa. — Rings of kielbasa fill the cooler at Oprisko Kielbasa near Simpson. Owner Dave Rupp says the smoked meat is popular, especially ahead of Easter. This is the shop’s busiest time of year. Rupp, his family, and friends start cooking for Easter more than a month in advance. Rupp says people travel from all over to buy his kielbasa. For many, it’s a tradition to have the meat on their Easter table. The closer to the holiday, the busier the shop gets.
Electric City reels in fans with 'The Office' 5K run

SCRANTON, Pa. — As Michael Scott once said, “There's no party like a Scranton party!” Fans of the hit TV show “The Office” will be in the Electric City on May 3rd for the fourth annual Office 5K and one-mile walk. The course passes through several sites featured on the show, such as Penn Paper, Cooper's, and the Dwight mural. Runners can dress up as their favorite office characters. There will also be kid's activities in Courthouse Square.

MONTROSE, Pa. — Easter is one of, if not the busiest time of the year at Chocolates By Leopold. The company has three stores, including a factory location in Montrose where they make all of their chocolate. Easter is a busy time for that! The biggest sellers this time of year are molded candy, chocolate bunnies and chocolate eggs. Workers will make thousands of chocolate treats for the holiday. They started preparing for Easter right after Christmas.
PNC Field unveils renovations for RailRiders opening day

MOOSIC, Pa. — Baseball is back at PNC Field this week! Opening Day for the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders is tomorrow, and PNC Field in Moosic has a new look. The stadium was renovated in the offseason to meet the standards for minor league facilities set by major league baseball. There are new LED lights, an improved locker room, showers, a towel room, and private areas for male and female staff members. The RailRiders started their season on the road and are currently 9-4.
Keystone Cupcake Challenge returns for 12th year with sweet treats for a cause

FACTORYVILLE, Pa. — If you have a sweet tooth, we have just the event for you. The Keystone College Cupcake Challenge is back for its 12th year. This year’s theme is “Spring Fling” and it is also a fundraiser for the Pancreatic Cancer Awareness Network. There are three categories: home bakers, junior bakers, and professional bakers. Bakers can sign up right up until the day of the event. Admission is $10 and you get six cupcakes. There will also be raffle baskets and 50/50 tickets.
Marching Panthers to represent Pennsylvania at Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade

BLOOMSBURG, Pa. — The Bloomsburg Area High School Marching Band is preparing for a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity. The band was nominated to represent Pennsylvania at the Pearl Harbor Memorial Parade in Hawaii, commemorating the 84th anniversary of the Pearl Harbor attack. The students were nominated by an anonymous veteran in the Bloomsburg area. Only about a dozen high school bands from around the country will be performing at the event. The trip is an expensive one though.
Help Wanted: Knoebels is Hiring

ELYSBURG, Pa. — Knoebels Amusement Resort will kick off its 99th season in just over one month. And it takes a lot of people to run all of these rides and games. Knoebels says it needs about 2,300 employees to run the park during the summer season. "We have commitment from over 1,000 of last year's team members as well already. We're hoping that number continues to grow, meaning that we will still be bringing on several hundred team members," Knoebels Amusement Spokesperson Stacy Yutko said.
Wildlife center braces for influx of baby animals this season

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — The Wilderz at Pocono Wildlife took care of more than 3,500 animals last year and expects that number to increase this year. The rehabilitation center takes in injured and orphaned wildlife. Baby season is right around the corner, and soon, all the cages will be filled with baby animals. Many of the babies need to be fed around the clock and during the busy season there are dozens of babies at a time.
Stroudsburg parade to close out St. Patrick's Day season

STROUDSBURG, Pa. — There is one last St. Patrick’s Day parade in our area and it’s this weekend in the Poconos. The 46th Stroudsburg St. Patrick’s Day Parade steps off Sunday afternoon at 1:15 from Stroudsburg High School. Festivities will carry on until at least 9 p.m. Organizers say this is their largest parade yet with 135 groups. That includes marching bands, pipe bands, mummers, and more. Bar and restaurant owners in this area say parade day is one of their busiest of the year.
