The 2025 Japanese Grand Prix wasn’t a thriller. But to say it was boring would do an injustice not only to the race itself, but to one of the greatest performances by one of the greatest drivers in F1 history. It wasn’t a race F1 would win new fans with. Surely, for someone who happened to turn on the TV (is that still a thing?) early Sunday morning in Europe, or very late on Saturday night in the US, and saw an F1 race for the first time, it wouldn’t have been one to get them hooked.

Waar hij ook naartoe reist met het Formule 1-circus, hij heeft altijd zijn kalkzak, gordel en klimschoenen in zijn koffer.

「今夜行くかもしれないです」 上海国際サーキットのハースF1チームのホスピタリティで話している時、小松礼雄は時計をちらりと見た。 「ホテルから30分くらいのところに、新しいクライミングジムがあるらしいんです。ちょうど友人がクライミングコーチとして現地の選手を指導していて、そこにいるんですよ」 ハースF1チームのチーム代表である小松にとって、世界各地のクライミングジムに通うことはここ数年のルーティンになっている。F1のサーカスと共に世界を旅する際には、チョークバッグ、ハーネス、クライミングシューズを必ず荷物に入れており、世界中のジムをよく知っている。そこでは、多くの人々が垂直の壁を登っている。 「シンガポールにはジムがたくさんあるんです」 小松はリストを挙げ始めた。 「街の中心部に泊まるから、選択肢が豊富なんです。ブラジルでは、ホテルから5分のところにクライミングジムがあります。ミラノは素晴らしいですよ。ヒルトンに泊まるんですけど、ホテルから歩いて2分の場所にミラノで一番良いジムがあります。バーレーンでも登れるし、メルボルンもそう……鈴鹿でも、どこに行けばいいか分かっていますよ」...
