Biola’s recent phishing attack, how the university fights cyber-attacks and how to protect yourself On Sept. 20, students and employees were alerted via an email from Steve Earle, chief information officer of the Information Technology (IT) department, that they might have been targets of a wave of phishing attacks. The email warned students about the phishing attack that appeared as an email seemingly advertising job openings at Biola.

Early on the morning of Oct. 9, hundreds of students lined up outside Chase Gymnasium, eagerly awaiting the start of Biola’s 89th Torrey Memorial Bible Conference. This year’s theme — Wholehearted — delves into how we Christians can worship God with our whole being and our undivided attention. Keynote speakers comprising Biola faculty and guest speakers from across the country dive into topics such as grief, political conflict and same-sex attraction, with Psalm 86:11 at the core.

Biola’s western campus has some of the newest buildings, the latest of which is the Lim Center. The long-awaited launch of the Snyder School of Cinema & Media Arts (CMA) studio facility marks the beginning of the next addition. The construction site, however, takes up significant space, closing down and surrounding offices, parking lots and sidewalks with fences. The new school year always brings changes; Biola’s chapel program and its method for checking in are no exception. These adjustments, however, were in the making last school year. On April 26, Mike Ahn, dean of Spiritual Development, sent an email announcing a new chapel schedule and chapel accountability system to be implemented in Fall 2024.

With both an injured student and a broken window, Alpha Hall faces a time of recovery and repair. Brian Phillips, associate vice president of Facility and Auxiliary Operations, provided information about the restoration of the window. “The estimated damage to the window will be approximately in the $700 range,” said Phillips. “The type of glass is readily available and can be replaced with a 24 hour turnaround once ordered, which should be sometime next week.

The cornerstone of any reputable Christian organization lies in the ways they carry themselves through difficult situations with integrity, and unfortunately, that was not the case with Bill Wilson. During Biola’s 94th annual Missions Conference, known as the largest student-led conference in the world, students experienced a heavy and difficult main session resulting in conflicting opinions among the community.

Alopecia areata (AA) is a chronic autoimmune disease characterized by discrete patches of nonscarring hair loss. Its negative influence on quality of life and association with psychiatric disorders is well documented.1,2 Given the slow time to remission and low patient satisfaction with existing medical therapies, there is a need for complementary therapies.3,4 Support groups are one form of complementary therapy whose use has not been well documented in AA.

It is election season for Biola. On Feb. 2, the Student Government Association (SGA) held its first-ever event called SGA Elections Night where students running to be senators of their respective dorms or to represent commuters and presidential candidates spoke about their goals and vision for the 2024-25 academic year. The event began with a time for students to visit each candidate’s tables set up in the Andrews Banquet Room to ask questions and learn more about them and their mission.
