Zachary residents can offer their thoughts on the city’s proposed new master plan at a workshop Wednesday, April 23. It will take place from 5 to 7 p.m. at the Zachary Branch Library. Members of the city’s planning staff and the Villavaso and Associates planning firm will be on hand to answer questions and listen to feedback. Zachary’s current master plan, which outlines existing and future land uses in the city, was adopted in 2010.

Summer vacation is fast approaching, and for the Zachary Community School Board, that means it’s time to hand out awards to students and teachers who have made outstanding accomplishments this school year. The board spent much of its April 1 meeting honoring some of the district’s best and brightest. It also officially welcomed its newest member, Tracey Taylor-Jarrell, who was sworn in to represent District 1 on an interim basis.

Facing rising costs and a stagnant level of funding from the state, Zachary school leaders are contemplating going to voters in the fall to ask for tax dollars to pay for teacher raises, facility improvements and technology upgrades. Superintendent Ben Necaise detailed the plan at a work session preceding the School Board's April 1 meeting. Necaise emphasized that he is not seeking a new property tax.
