Time has not been kind to a U.S. Navy armored cruiser that struck a German mine and sunk off the coast of Fire Island in 1918 during World War I. "When I first dived it, it was much more intact, and now it's breaking up," said John Bricker, who's been divingtothe USS San Diego for 37 years. The deterioration of the San Diego is making "different areas of the wreck" available for exploration, Bricker said, who dove to the wreck last July and August.

The National Weather Service announced Thursday it was planning to resume translation services for its forecasts by Monday, after announcing earlier this month it was pausing the service. The service's post Thursday on the social media site X said: "The National Weather Service’s contract to produce common language translations for @NWS products has been reinstated.

Gov. Kathy Hochul announced Friday that work was beginning on $16.6 million worth of projects to resurface 55 "lane miles" of state roads on Long Island, as well as pedestrian safety enhancements. "With the onset of warmer weather, we are delivering on our promise to modernize Long Island's infrastructure and invest in safer, smoother travel for all New Yorkers," Hochul said in a statement.

The U.S. Air Force Thunderbirds will headline the 2025 FourLeaf Air Show at Jones Beach during Memorial Day weekend next month, a show that typically draws several hundred thousand attendees, officials announced on Wednesday. Formerly called the Bethpage Air Show because the Bethpage Federal Credit Union had been the title sponsor of the show since 2004, it has been renamed to reflect the credit union's rebranding as FourLeaf Federal Credit Union, officials said in a statement.
