There is no end in sight to the leadership crisis rocking the Lagos State House of Assembly as the 35 lawmakers who removed Mudashiru Obasa as speaker insisted that the embattled lawmaker would not be reinstated. According to the lawmakers, the new Speaker, Mojisola Meranda, remains the leader of the Assembly despite Obasa’s declaration that he had resumed his position. Obasa had gone to the Assembly on Thursday after his security details were restored.

The reinstated Clerk of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Olalekan Onafeko, has threatened a contempt suit against the acting Clerk of the House, Ottun Babatunde. The development followed the drama that occurred at the Assembly complex on Wednesday when Onafeko was barred from entering the Clerk’s Office. Onafeko was suspended by the House on January 13, the same day Mudashiru Obasa was removed by 36 of the 40 lawmakers sitting on the fateful day.

The legal team of ousted Speaker of the Lagos State House of Assembly, Mudashiru Obasa, has said there is no plan to withdraw the suit filed to challenge his removal as Speaker. Obasa’s lead counsel, Chief Afolabi Fashanu (SAN), who spoke to The PUNCH on Tuesday, said he was prepared for the court hearing fixed for February 28, notwithstanding the moves to resolve the Assembly crisis politically.
