    Mourners at the funeral of Tony Wright, who died following a single vehicle crash in Magherafelt, have heard that ‘people flocked to him because of his warm and gentle nature’. This afternoon’s service was held in Church of St Mary, Coolcalm, Desertmartin and was attended by the 54 year-old’s family and many friends. Tony sustained fatal injuries in the single-vehicle collision involving a van he was driving on the Grange Road, Magherafelt on Sunday, June 1.

    The funeral of a man who died following a road crash in County Derry will take place on Friday. Tony Wright sustained fatal injuries in the single-vehicle collision involving a van he was driving on the Grange Road, Magherafelt. The incident happened at around 12.10pm on Sunday, June 1. Mr Wright (54), who was from the Magherafelt area, was taken to hospital where he later died.

    Writer Patrick Gormley has launched his third book at an event held in Ballinascreen. 'The Leap Year' is a collection of 41 poems written by the County Tyrone native, who resides outside Draperstown. Patrick, who has been writing poems for more than 15 years, held the launch in Draperstown Library last Tuesday evening. A member of local writers' groups in Kilcronaghan and Burnavon, Patrick has previously published two books.

    A County Derry man is preparing to run a 100km ultramarathon in Scotland to raise awareness and funds for the Motor Neurone Disease Association. Emmett O’Hara will take on his biggest challenge to date when he participates in Ultra Scotland on June 7. The Craigbane man says the run will ‘test me like I’ve never been tested before’ as he is set to follow one of Scotland’s great trails, the breathtaking Southern Upland Way.

    Tributes have been paid to a renowned musician from County Derry, who passed away following a long battle with illness. Maurice Bradley, a talented fiddler and uilleann piper from Ballinascreen, died peacefully at his Sixtowns home on Thursday (May 8). A death notice stated that Mr Bradley was the ‘dearly beloved brother of Roger, Maura (McRory),  Geraldine, Ken, Helen (Roberts), Joan (Darragh) Peggy (Mercer) and Stella (O’Neill)’.
