LCCC receives $100,000 to upgrade dental hygiene trainingELYRIA — Lorain County Community College will receive more than $100,000 from the state to purchase equipment to help fill local and regional workforce needs. The money was announced Wednesday as a part of $8 million in funding which is part of the Ohio Department of Higher Education’s Regionally Aligned Priorities in Delivering Skills (RAPIDS) grants.

Lake Avenue road diet project in Elyria Twp. to begin April 7A portion of Lake Avenue in Elyria Township is set to be repaved and reduced in width starting in early April, county officials said Friday. The Lorain County Engineer’s Office announced that on April 7 the county would begin the Lake Avenue Road Diet Project on Lake Avenue between Griswold Road and Elyria Avenue in the township.

Off-duty Amherst firefighter rescues pair and their dogs from turnpike wreckElyria firefighters credited an off-duty Amherst firefighter with rescuing two passengers from a crashed car on the Ohio Turnpike moments before it was struck by a tractor-trailer. Pete Stamatis was driving to Parma for an overtime shift at General Motors early Wednesday morning when a car in front of him fishtailed and slammed into the turnpike median wall in Elyria.
