Lorain County commissioners unanimously declared to observe World Elder Abuse Awareness Day, which is June 15. Commission President Jeff Riddell presented the proclamation during a June 6 meeting to Chandel S. Dusenbury, supervisor of Adult Protective Services, and Chris Cabot, director of Job and Family Services. Dusenbury attended the meeting to present information about elder abuse to the commission board as officials seek to bring awareness to the increasing problem.

Officials said about 15,000 residents in Lorain County were without power for several hours June 4 after a FirstEnergy transmission line went down. The power outage began a few minutes past 5 p.m. after the line went down on Colorado Avenue in Lorain, according to Hannah Catlett, a spokesperson for the power company. The line fed into a substation, causing the large outage to customers in Lorain, Elyria, Sheffield Lake, Sheffield Township and Sheffield Village.
