Catholic parishes in Lorain will celebrate the Feast of the Ascension June 1 with a Eucharistic Procession during the first of its kind event, according to a news release. Mass, which begins at noon, will kick off the event at the Nativity of the Blessed Virgin Mary Parish, 418 W. 15th St., which is the Lorain County’s Jubilee 2025 Pilgrimage Sacred Site. Nativity B.V.M. Church will not hold its regular 10:30 a.m. Mass that day.

The cast is set for “Worst Man,” a dark comedic short film that combines heart and humor with topics of divorce, brotherhood and emotional repression and will include Brandon Arroyo, a former Lorain resident and Brookside High School graduate. The cast includes Disney Channel alumni Jason Earles (“Hannah Montana,” “Kickin’ It”), pro-wrestler James Storm (“TNA/Impact Wrestling”) and four-time Emmy winning host Chris Van Vliet, said Arroyo, who also is a writer and director.

A new grocery store, Grocery Outlet, is coming to Lorain, according to Mayor Jack Bradley. Bradley said several weeks ago, he and Safety-Service Director Rey Carrion met with representatives from Grocery Outlet. Initially, the representatives weren’t too keen on building their store in Lorain as they hadn’t heard good things about the city, Bradley said.

Lorain County commissioners passed a resolution recognizing May as Foster Care Month in Lorain County. Kristin Fox-Berki, director of Lorain County Children Services, attended the meeting May 23 to express gratitude to the foster families as well as to explain the foster care program. Children who can’t stay with their parents or relatives, are placed with foster families, Fox-Berki said.
