EAST TAWAS – The sun shone down through an almost cloudless sky, accompanied by a cool breeze, as if it had been specially ordered for the grand re-opening of the Tawas Point Lighthouse after a year-long restoration that had required all hands on deck.

EAST TAWAS – Once a year, the East Tawas City Council holds a joint meeting in which city departments give presentations on capital improvements within their jurisdiction and city boards and commissions present summaries for their agency. This also provides an opportunity for the council to ask any pertinent questions. This year, in addition to its regular business, the city will also be preparing a new master plan which will begin implementation on Oct. 1 and cover up to Sept. 30, 2029.

EAST TAWAS – Among the agenda items for the April 15 meeting of the East Tawas City Council, were the presentation of a certificate of appreciation, a summary of the city’s annual financial audit, the appointment of a new East Tawas Fire Department (ETFD) chief and monthly reports from several city departments and agencies. Although further down the agenda, it was of special note that City Manager Brent Barringer recommended the appointment of Andy Ryan to the position of ETFD chief.

OSCODA – The Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport Authority (OWAA) held their regular monthly meeting on Thursday April 18th beginning with a lengthy closed session with the addition of alternate Terry Dutcher. In addition to regular business, agenda items included briefings on the second quarter budget, VirTower operation statistics, snow tracker data and the pause on the search for a new Oscoda-Wurtsmith Airport (OWA) director.
