Northwestern junior Luke Fugazzotto finished his state championship wrestling weekend with a strong performance in the Class 2A bracket, placing seventh at 172 pounds. Fugazzotto pinned Frazier’s Jackson Angelo in 4:57 to claim his second state medal, and finish the season with a stellar 50-5 record. “I fell pretty short of what I really wanted to do,” said Fugazzotto, who was second in Hershey a year ago.

Northwestern wrestlers Luke Fugazzotto and Nolan Koehler qualified for states with top-five finishes at last weekend’s PIAA Class 2A Southeast Regional Championships. Fugazzotto qualified for states for the third time in his career after reaching the final Saturday, where he dropped a 12-0 major decision to Faith Christian Academy’s Nick Singer at 172 pounds. “It just helps me learn what I have to do better if I see him again,” said Fugazzotto.

Fugazzotto showed his growth a year ago with a spot in the PIAA Class 2A 172-pound final. And he has continued that evolution — and dominance — this season, winning his first 36 matches, including the 100th of his career, to open his junior campaign.

HERSHEY — The PIAA Cross Country Championships are more than just the culmination of a season. They are a celebration of the days, weeks, months — and sometimes years — it takes to get to there. Never a right and always a privilege, the chance to compete at the state meet in Hershey is always a unique opportunity. And that was especially true Saturday as runners hit the Parkview Cross Country Course to cap another remarkable season.
