Joel Carter of Detroit spent most of his prison sentence in solitary confinement. Records filed in federal court show MDOC doctors believed Carter's behavioral problems, which he was punished for, were linked to his multiple sclerosis. Carter is now free from prison and has a job, while trying to help inmates still inside who have medical and mental diagnoses. When Joel Carter was 19, he got caught in a police sting operation, trying to sell four ounces of cocaine to an undercover officer.
