A B.C. trade union is raising concerns about the potential improper use of foreign workers at the St. Paul's Hospital construction site in Vancouver. Now in the latter stages of construction, the massive site has seen thousands of tradespeople of all types on the job. According to Robert Sheck, business manager of the BC Insulators Local 118, the union began looking into the matter after a handful of people doing insulation work at the site started talking last year.

Wildlife officials are desperately working to locate a trio of orphaned bear cubs in Whistler, after their mother was put down for attacking a dog walker earlier this week. The B.C. Conservation Officer Service (BCCOS) said the mother bear was killed after it knocked a woman down and bit her in the Kadenwood neighbourhood on Monday evening. On Tuesday, the BCCOS received reports from the same area about the cubs, which they now believe belonged to the sow.

Conservationists have opened a new front in the ongoing battle over open net pen salmon farming in B.C.The Pacific Salmon Foundation says its latest study has found that water near active open-net farms contains four times more pathogens harmful to wild salmon than water near inactive farms. The foundation argues the research proves open-net farms contain and amplify pathogens that can affect wild salmon outside the nets.
