DETROIT LAKES, Minn. (KFGO) – Lawyers for Minnesota State Senator Nichole Mitchell have filed a motion to dismiss a second felony charge against her. Mitchell’s attorneys are accusing the Becker County Attorney’s Office of prosecutorial vindictiveness for adding the second charge after her trial was delayed in January. Mitchell, a Democrat from Woodbury, is accused of breaking into her stepmother’s home in Detroit Lakes in April 2024 to retrieve property that belonged to her late father.

WADENA, Minn. (KFGO) – A man is dead and another is in jail following a crash near Wadena late Tuesday night. Otter Tail County deputies say Blake Unger, 18, was killed in the crash northwest of Wadena. Deputies found a pickup on its side in a ditch near an intersection where the crash took place. Unger was found dead near the pickup. The driver of the pickup, 18-year-old Izak Schermerhorn, was arrested for vehicular homicide, 4th degree DWI, and underage drinking and driving.

ST. PAUL, Minn. (KFGO) – A Blaine man has been charged with damaging a St. Paul apartment and throwing a puppy out a window to its death in November. Ramsey County prosecutors have charged 27-year-old Jake Scandrett with animal torture and criminal damage to property damage. A warrant has been issued for Scandrett’s arrest. A woman told police that Scandrett was staying at her apartment while she was out of town. Police were called after the upstairs neighbor reported a dog was thrown from a window.

GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. – A Grand Rapids man has been charged with 14 counts of felony animal torture and numerous other charges for mistreating goats and dumping their carcasses on property where he was living. The charges against Jacob Langeslag, 42, were filed earlier this month in Itasca County District Court. The goats and carcasses were found in rural Bovey. The complaint says 92 goats died under Langeslag’s care. The property is not owned by Langeslag but he had been living there.

FARGO (KFGO KVRR) – Crooked Pint Ale House, located at 3340 13th Ave S, has abruptly closed its doors. The restaurant left a notice on its door for patrons stating, “Serving the Fargo community has been a true privilege, and we’re sincerely thankful for the support you’ve shown us.”
