Fargo firefighters at Red River Commodities (April 23, 2025) FARGO (KFGO) – The Fargo Fire Department now says there was a dust explosion and not a natural gas explosion at a north Fargo food processing plant late last month. It happened at a Red River Commodities building in the 300 block of 40th Street North. The investigation found that the April 23 dust explosion was in a storage bin. One person was treated for non life-threatening injuries at a Fargo hospital.

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – A woman has been charged with driving while high on drugs with her adolescent son in the car. The State Patrol says 30-year-old Megan Kelly Thorsen of Grand Forks was heading east on I-94 near Fergus Falls Saturday afternoon when her car was seen repeatedly crossing over the center and fog lines. A trooper pulled the vehicle over. Thorsen’s son was in the passenger seat.

ST. PAUL, Minn. – The State Department of Health says Minnesota’s suicide rate remained unchanged in 2024 compared to the year before. Preliminary data shows the state’s suicide rate last year in entirely rural counties was twice that of the Twin Cities metro counties. rural counties make up about 1.6% of the Minnesota population and 2.8% of all suicide deaths.
Fatal fire under investigation in Brooklyn Park

BROOKLYN PARK, Minn. – Police and fire officials are investigating a deadly house fire Tuesday evening in Brooklyn Park. Firefighters responding to a report of smoke coming from a home found what they called a working structure fire. Crews located a man inside and pulled him from the home. Paramedics treated the victim, but he died at the scene. No word yet on what might have caused the fire.
Perham man charged with having child pornography

FERGUS FALLS, Minn. (KFGO KBRF) – A Perham man has been charged with possessing child pornography. 41-year-old Zachary Nash has been accused of being in possession of multiple files containing depictions of underage girls in a sexually explicit manner. According to court documents, the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office received tips from the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children in December 2022.

SISSETON, S.D. (KFGO KVRR) – The FBI regional office in Minneapolis is the lead investigative agency in a fatal incident Tuesday in Roberts County in northeastern South Dakota. Law enforcement sources say one of the persons involved in the incident is “affiliated” with the South Dakota Game, Fish & Parks Department, but the person is not a conservation officer.

WEST FARGO (KFGO) – The Highway Patrol is investigating a pickup-train collision in West Fargo. The crash was reported shortly before 11:30 a.m. Tuesday. The driver of a westbound pickup was traveling in the eastbound lanes when the crash took place at the BNSF Railway crossing on 12th Avenue NE. The pickup was dragged about 100 feet. The 34-year-old Valley City man was taken to a Fargo hospital by Sanford Ambulance. The patrol, West Fargo Police and Fire, BNSF Police and Sanford Ambulance responded.

Fargo Cass Public Health to hold walk-in MMR vaccination event

FARGO (KFGO) – Fargo Cass Public Health will host a measles, mumps and rubella walk-in vaccine clinic on Thursday, May 15, from 7 a.m. – 1 p.m. The clinic will be held at the main FCPH building at 1240 25th Street South in Fargo. It is a walk-in clinic and appointments are not necessary. The MMR vaccine will be available for those currently recommended to receive the vaccine. Entry into the clinic will take place on the south side of the building, through the west door.
