    ST. PAUL (WCCO) -The Minnesota Department of Health says Minnesota’s suicide rate remained unchanged in 2024 compared to the year before. Preliminary data show the state’s suicide rate last year in entirely rural counties was twice that of the Twin Cities metro counties. Rural counties make up about 1.6% of the Minnesota population and 2.8% of all suicide deaths.

    PERHAM, MINN. – A Perham woman has been sentenced to pay almost $8,000 in restitution after failing to update her income while receiving medical assistance. Otter Tail County prosecutors say 31-year-old Bailey Ann Freel did not report any income when she applied for assistance in June 2023. Over a year later, county investigators received a fraud referral saying that Freel’s income had changed, but she had not reported it.

Several years ago, the city council decided to no longer allow farm animals like chickens to be raised in the city. However, City Community Development Director Jace Hellman says, based on comments heard by those who want to raise chickens in their yards, the city staff decided to reconsider allowing the backyard flocks. The city put out a city survey last month.

    FERGUS FALLS, MINN. (KFGO) – A Fergus Falls apartment fire left tenants displaced Sunday afternoon. Firefighters responded to the fire on East Cavor Avenue near the Riverside Waterfowl Sanctuary at around 1:46Firefighters saw smoke coming from one of the units involved. Due to the quick action of another tenant who used a fire extinguisher on the fire, damage was confined to one apartment unit.
