CANTON – Parents can now experience the joy of reading a book to their child or children a thousandfold by participating in a free program offered at the Canton Free Library. Introduced by the 1,000 Books Foundation, the goal of the program focuses on parents reading 1,000 to their newborn, infant or toddlers by the time they enroll in kindergarten. So far the 1,000 Books Before Kindergarten program has been well received at the Canton Free Library.

CANTON – Canton’s recreation director is hoping to land a $50,000 grant from T-Mobile to renovate the Buck Street Playground. Meghan Richardson told members of the town board Monday night, Jan. 13, that she has applied for funding through the T-Mobile Hometown Grant Program. She said the playground is in need of repairs. It’s a well utilized playground, even in the winter,” said Richardson. T-Mobile is offering awards up to $50,000 for shovel-ready projects for outdoor spaces.
Taillon named Town of Canton deputy supervisor; committee appointments made

CANTON – The Town of Canton has a new deputy town supervisor. Councilman John Taillon was appointed to that position at Monday night’s organizational meeting. Taillon succeeds Councilman James T. Smith as deputy town supervisor. The appointment was made by Town Supervisor Mary Ann Ashley. The 2025 committee assignments were finalized at Monday’s meeting.
