The best gravel race bikes are designed for fast riding off road. While gravel adventure bikes and generalist gravel bikes offer ever-wider tyre clearance and numerous mounting points, gravel race bikes are in general much more pared back. Their geometry is often closer to road bikes and tyre clearance is more restricted, although there are exceptions. Often, bike makers will have both a gravel race bike and a gravel adventure bike in their range, such as the Specialized Crux and Diverge.

Continental has launched the Grand Prix TR tyre. Available in four widths, 25mm, 28mm, 30mm and 32mm, and with black or transparent sidewalls, it’s designed to offer a more affordable tubeless tyre option than the top spec GP5000 S TR and GP5000 AS TR tyres. There’s also a revised Grand Prix tyre for use with tubes, that’s available in 28mm and 30mm widths. Recommended price for the Grand Prix TR tyre is €61.95 and for the new non-tubeless Grand Prix €45.95, with immediate worldwide availability.

Boardman has updated its SLR road bike for the first time since 2017 with a new frame, which it says improves aero performance by 5.7 watts at 50kmh. At the same time, it also has increased tyre clearance to 36mm, while retaining mudguard compatibility and adding a third bottle cage mount.
