CAB puts home of convicted armed robber up for sale

The Criminal Assets Bureau has put the home of a convicted cash-in-transit armed robber up for sale for an asking price of at least €345,000. CAB took possession of the semi-detached double-fronted five-bedroom house in Hazelbury Park in Clonee four months ago. It is to be sold at an online public auction in two weeks starting at the advised minimum value, but is expected to receive a higher price.
Five charged over holding man down, branding him 'rat'

Five men have appeared in court charged in connection with holding a man down and branding the word RAT on his face and body earlier this year. The five are 45-year-old Kenneth Fitzsimons and his son 24-year-old son Dean Fitzsimons, both from Castlecurragh Vale in Blanchardstown, along with 29-year-old Jason Hennessy, 28-year old Devon Hennessy and 22-year-old Brandon Hennessy, each with an address at Sheephill Avenue in Blanchardstown. The DPP has directed trial on indictment.

A garda has been killed in the line of duty while carrying out a speeding checkpoint in north county Dublin. The incident happened in Lanestown, Co Dublin earlier today. The garda was 49 years of age and had two young children. A motorcyclist has also been seriously injured in the incident. He has been taken to hospital where his condition is described as critical. Gardaí and emergency services are currently at the scene on the R132 at Lanestown, Co Dublin.

The Irish ladies senior water polo cup final turned into a nail-biter which had to be won and lost in the cruellest way this evening. It took penalties to decide the game - the All-Ireland final in water polo - as nothing separated Galway's Tribes and Dublin’s St Vincents for a gruelling hour in the university pool in Limerick. Tribes led the game all the way, but Vincents ladies kept after them and went a goal ahead in the final two minutes to lead 10-9.
Man has three fingers cut off in Dublin machete attack

A man has been taken to hospital with serious injuries following a machete attack in west Dublin today. The incident took place in the Bawnogue area and is understood to be connected to an ongoing feud among traveller families in the area. The man was attacked and chased into a house in the area. It's understood he sustained facial injuries from a caustic substance and three of his fingers were cut off. The area has been sealed off as a crime scene and gardaí in Clondalkin are investigating.
Applications open for Garda Commissioner job

The search for a new Garda Commissioner to replace Drew Harris has begun with the position now advertised on the public jobs website. It says An Garda Síochána is seeking someone with "a proven track record" of successful strategic and organisational reform, who can implement and communicate new ways of working and build "a cohesive senior management team". The new Commissioner will replace Mr Harris in September, the first person from an outside police force to lead An Garda Síochána.
Gardaí carry out searches after bomb attack in Finglas

Gardaí investigating a bomb attack in Finglas over the weekend have carried out several searches in North Dublin. A drone carrying the improvised explosive device which Gardaí believe was targeting a criminal's house in the area crashed into the home of an innocent family in Glenties Park. The army bomb disposal team was called to the scene and several homes were evacuated until the device was made safe.
Two arrested as heroin worth almost €3m seized in Dublin

Two men are being questioned after gardaí seized almost €3m worth of heroin in Dublin city. More than 21kg of the drug was discovered in Coolock last night as part of an investigation by the Garda Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau. The heroin was in 1kg blocks. A 34-year-old Spanish man and a 44-year-old man from the UK were arrested and are being questioned in Dublin garda stations. They are being detained under anti-gang legislation and can be held for up to a week.
