BUFFALO, N.Y. — On May 20, 1975, the Stanley Cup finals took a very strange turn. In the first period of the game between Buffalo Sabres and the Philadelphia Flyers, a bat flew down from the rafters, swooping around the seats, and finally around the players standing at the faceoff dot to the left of Flyers goalie Bernie Parent. With a quick flip of the wrists, Sabres forward Jim Lorentz knocked the bat out of mid-air.
