LONG GROVE, Ill. - Gracie Piar saved her best round ofr the final day of comeptition at the 92nd Illinois State Women's Amateur Championship at The Grove Country Club. Cal State Northridge's Piar, a 2022 Marquette Catholic High graduate from East Alton and a 2021 IHSA state champion, fired a 2-under par 70 on the final day of play Wednesday and finished fourth at the championship. Overall, Piar carded an even-par 216 over the course of the three-day tournament.

RAPID CITY, S.D. - Allison Jennings went out with a bang Thursday at the United States Tumbling Association Open Elite National Meet. Jennings, of Mid-Illinois Gymnastics in Godfrey, ended her senior year with a national championship. A recent graduate of Edwardsville High School, Jennings had nearly 12 years of hard work under her belt heading into the nationals this week. She held a narrow lead heading into the final day of competition and extended it.

GODFREY - The Summers-Port Sharks faced a unique challenege Thursday when they hosted Sunset Hills in Week 2 of the Southwestern Illinois Swim Association season. Facing a depleted Stingrays lineup which featured only 16 swimmers, Summers-Port coach Maddie Monro was nonetheless looking for strong performances from her swimmers, not just a team victory. Monroe said she saw positives in her swimmers' effort. And that team outcome? The Sharks rolled to a 429-100 victory.

Will Fahnestock has taken his Marquette baseball ride full circle, from bat boy to All-Stater. Fahnestock, a recent Marquette graduate, has been named to the Illinois High School Baseball Coaches Class 2A All-State team. The honor came as a bit of surprise to the Marquette catcher, a four-year starter. "I hadn't thought much about it," Will said. "Baseball has been over for us for a while now. But it 's a great feeling."As a youngster, Fahnestock had an idea of what he wanted to do when he grew up.

ALTON - Tennis people like to say their sport is all about family. This week, there was no denying it. The Riverbend Family Doubles Tournamennt offered absolute proof. As part of the Riverbend Open, Tuesday's Family Doubles Tournament at the Aton High School courts has become arguably one of the area's most popular small tennis tourneys. It's not the largest, but it's one of the most fun. The rest of the Riverbend Open is scheduled for next week.
