    ST. LOUIS - St. Louis City maintained its habit of strong defensive efforts Saturday. City held the Vancouver Whitecaps and high-scoring Brian White off the scoreboard. Unfortunately for City, another habit remained unbroken as well. St. Louis didn't score, either. The result was a 0-0 tie with the Whitecaps at Energizer Field. Vancouver came into the game with the most standings points in MLS, but left with just one, as did STL City.

    Bellville West took a 4-1 lead at ahlftiem and went on take a Southwestern Conferenc road victory over the Alton Redbirds. West's Maroons got two goals each from Josie Coughlin and Addie Gagen and one each from Emerson Morris, Livi Schaffer and Hannah Sternau. Alton's goal was scored by Kenzie Stark in the first half off a corner kick by Abi Davis. The loss dropped Alton to 0-9 overall and 0-3 in the conference. West is 7-4-1 overa;; and 4-2 in the SWC, Alton will host O'Fallon Tuesday.

    ALTON - A boys tennis tournment that has in a short time become an annual highlight for the Alton Redbirds in a short time, has been cancelled. The 2025 Robert Logan Memorial Doubles Tournaemnt was cancelled by AHS officials Thursday morning beause of a forecst for heavy rains on Saturday. "There's nothing that you can do when you have a rainy weekend," Alton coach Jesse Macias said. "There aren't enough indoor courts and it's hard to reschedule because everyone plays tournaments on the weekends.

    Illinois state representives have decided at least part of the"Right to Play Act" is right. The Illinois House on Wednesday gave its approval to a scaled-back version of the bill, which would allow high school student-athletes to play in non-school activities during the same season they play for their school team. The bill now awaits action by the Illinois Senate. In short, club team sports and IHSA sports could soon be able co-exist during the same season.
