GENEVA — Canandaigua Academy boys lacrosse head coach Deven York typically gets nervous on game day. On Tuesday, however, he had a peace about him throughout the day before the Class B championship game. Perhaps that feeling wafted over the entire program, because while the Gray Wolves once again found themselves down by multiple goals in the fourth quarter, they found a way.

GENEVA — Every day, Penn Yan boys lacrosse head coach Brian Hobart passes by the trophy case at Penn Yan Academy displaying the 27 sectional titles the program has won since 1987. There’s an empty slot where the 2024 title would have gone, and Hobart reminds himself and his team every day that the Mustangs are the defending champions of nothing, and that the primary goal for the 2025 season was to get back to sectional supremacy.

GENEVA — The perfect season was not to be for Palmyra-Macedon boys lacrosse. On Monday evening at Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the Red Raiders’ stellar season ran into a freight train in the Honeoye Falls-Lima Cougars. A 5-0 first quarter opened the door for No. 2 seed HF-L to pour it on en route to a 19-7 win and their third-straight sectional title. It was the fifth year in a row HF-L played in the Class C finals and the program’s fourth sectional title overall.

GENEVA — In this 2025 boys lacrosse season, all roads lead to Boswell Field on the campus of Hobart and William Smith Colleges, the site of the NYSPHSAA Championships on June 14. Before then, teams do make a pit-stop at Boswell Field to try to win a sectional title. Boswell hosts the Section V boys finals as a sort of warmup for the state tournament to come. Facing off in today’s Section V Class B championship is a Section V classic: Canandaigua vs. Victor.

ONTARIO — Not many lacrosse teams possess the tools to overcome being on the wrong end of a 7-1 run, but the Canandaigua Academy boys lacrosse team showed the talent, resiliency and mental fortitude in a thrilling 12-11 overtime victory on Saturday. Down 11-8 with the fourth quarter to Irondequoit in the Class B semifinals, not much was going the way of the top-seeded Gray Wolves (16-2). They hadn't scored a goal in over 12 minutes of game time and the five-seed Eagles (12-7) were on a roll.
