Attorneys for a Guatemalan immigrant arrested in New Bedford, Massachusetts, this week are trying to keep him detained in New England. Juan Francisco Mendez, 29, has been held in New Hampshire since Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents broke the window of his car Monday to take him into custody. Attorneys for Mendez filed a habeas petition to keep him close by and ensure he is not held somewhere across the country, a common strategy by federal authorities.

Fenway is no stranger to unusual fan interactions, with one Red Sox fan from Ipswich using his fried dough to catch a foul ball during Thursday night's game against the Toronto Blue Jays. "I sort of like, raised my shoulder and the fried dough was here — and I kind of got it and it actually got trapped — the baseball got trapped right in the fried dough," Red Sox fan Max Kivekas said. The fried dough replaced a mitt, with Kivekas making quite the catch.

Jurors reached a verdict Thursday in the trial of a Massachusetts urologist who is accused in connection with the death of his wife five years ago. Ingolf Tuerk was accused of killing his wife, 45-year-old Kathleen McLean, who was last seen at the couple's Valley Road home on May 14, 2020. Her remains were found days later in a small pond not far from the couple's Dover home, officials said.
