BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Saint Johnsbury received more than eight inches of overnight, smashing the all-time record for one-day rainfall by over three inches. The National Weather Service in Burlington says the overnight storm was extremely unusual, with heavy rain localized in the areas of the Northeast Kingdom that resulted in a "one in 1,000-year event."The NWS's Peter Banacos says the storm caught both residents and meteorologists off guard.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - Happy Friday! We were waking up to a few rain showers this morning; those should gradually make their departure heading into the early afternoon. The further north you are, the more dry time and the more sunshine you see this afternoon. The further south you go, the more you dodge a few more showers and storms this afternoon and evening. Daytime highs climb back into the mid and upper 70s and lower 80s.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) -Happy Thursday! Most of us will start our Thursday primarily dry, with a few passing rain showers here and there. The bulk of the action will really be as we head towards this evening and tonight. Showers, downpours, and embedded thunderstorms roll west to east through the evening and the first part of the overnight hours tonight. Most of us run .5-1″ of new rain when we are all said and done, so there may be a few minor local flooding issues, but nothing major.

BURLINGTON, Vt. (WCAX) - We have made it to Eclipse Day! Our Monday will start with plenty of sunshine and cooler temperatures with most in the 20s and 30s. As we head towards this afternoon, a few high, thin clouds will begin to push in from west to east. The good news is that the clouds will be high and thin, and I suspect it won't do much to obscure any eclipse viewing. For a clearer, blue sky, the further east you head, the better the odds.

Plenty of rain on tap today. There will probably be some ponding in low-lying or poor drainage areas. While we should plan for rises on creeks and streams and area rivers all area rivers are forecasted to remain below flood stage. https://t.co/evqGKadQtH

A rather dry and cloudy day today, but don't put that umbrella away quite yet. https://t.co/FGqQeWNw50
