Abstract Importance Chronic spontaneous urticaria affects approximately 1% of the general population worldwide, including approximately 3 million people in the US, impairs patients’ quality of life, and is associated with multiple comorbidities. Observations Chronic spontaneous urticaria affects patients of any age but is most common in females aged 30 to 50 years. INTRODUCTION The barrier protective function predominantly resides in the stratum corneum (SC) of the epidermis and accomplishes an effective barrier towards the uncontrolled loss of water and the penetration of potentially harmful exogenous substances through the skin [1-3]. The SC, the outermost layer of the epidermis, comprises a lipid matrix primarily composed of ceramides, cholesterol and free fatty acids [1, 4-6].

In the recent mpox outbreak, people living with HIV (PLWH) were at high risk both for contracting infection and for suffering a more severe disease course. We studied cellular and humoral immune responses elicited by mpox infection (n = 5; n = 3 PLWH) or smallpox vaccination (n = 17; all PLWH) in a cohort of men who have sex with men. All PLWH were successfully treated, with stable CD4 counts and undetectable HIV viral loads. 11/17 vaccinated individuals had received childhood smallpox vaccination.

Clinical assessment of an individual's sense of smell has gained prominence, but its resource-intensive nature necessitates the exploration of self-administered methods. In this study, a cohort of 68 patients with olfactory loss and 55 controls were assessed using a recently introduced olfactory test. This test involves sorting two odorants (eugenol, phenylethyl alcohol) in five dilutions according to odor intensity, with an average application time of 3.5 minutes.

AbstractChronic urticaria (CU) is the recurring development of wheals (aka “hives” or “welts”), angioedema, or both for more than 6 weeks. Wheals and angioedema occur with no definite triggers in chronic spontaneous urticaria, and in response to known and definite physical triggers in chronic inducible urticaria. Approximately 1.4% of individuals globally will have CU during their lifetime.
