A 25-year-old man was fatally shot by police Tuesday afternoon inside a Brownsville apartment after allegedly brandishing a knife and advancing toward officers responding to a domestic dispute, police said. NYPD Chief of Housing Charles McEvoy said the shooting happened around 2:57 p.m. inside 108 Christopher Ave., part of the NYCHA Glenmore housing development.

Hudson the dog is officially off the leash after being adopted by the NYPD officer who fished her out of the East River. The pooch was rescued from the East River near South Street Seaport in late March and now has a new home. The NYPD announced on Saturday that officer Jared Desalvo of the Harbor Unit officially adopted Hudson after a six-week search for the dog’s original owner.

New York state health officials confirmed three new cases of measles in children under 5, bringing the state’s total to seven so far this year. The children, all residents of Orange County, roughly 70 miles north of New York City, recently returned from international travel and were not vaccinated against the disease, according to the New York State Department of Health. The new cases come amid a global and domestic increase in measles cases, officials said.

Masked pro-Palestinian protesters flooded into Columbia University’s main library Wednesday afternoon, pushing past security and occupying a reading room, officials said. The group forced its way into Room 301 of Butler Library shortly after 3 p.m., according to university officials, who said Columbia’s Public Safety team responded and later requested assistance from the NYPD.

A Queens judge has cleared the way for a protected bike lane along Review Avenue in Long Island City, ruling that the city’s Department of Transportation acted lawfully and dismissing a legal challenge brought by a group of local businesses.
