WAYNE COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - People were left to clean up and assess damage after a destructive storm passed through Southern Kentucky. Hail came down hard in the Monticello area of Wayne County on Thursday. People attending a large outdoor event at the city park had to take cover after golf-ball sized hail came down. The hail also led to several cars receiving damage, particularly to their windshields. Homes and businesses were also impacted but no injuries were reported.

WHITLEY COUNTY, Ky. (WYMT) - A Southern Kentucky community is grieving the loss of a 19-year-old former star football player. Tye Hamblin died on Tuesday, May 6 after he was involved in a motorcycle crash, police said. Hamblin was an instrumental part of the Whitley County High School Football team while he was in school. He played Quarterback for the Colonels for a couple of seasons. People say he could have gone on to play college football but he chose to work instead.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - The two teen boys killed in a Kentucky house fire have been identified. The fire broke out just after midnight on April 30 at a home on Flat Creek Road. Franklin County Coroner William C. Harrod identified the victims as 13-year-old Bently Maxwell Fields and 15-year-old Rylan Austin Fields. The boys’ father, Dustin Fields, is facing an arson charge in connection with the fire. Dustin Fields pleaded not guilty in a court appearance on Monday. Copyright 2025 WKYT.

FRANKLIN COUNTY, Ky. (WKYT) - We’re learning new details about a fire that killed two teens. The fire happened on Wednesday on Flat Creek Road. Dustin Fields, 44, is charged with arson. According to his arrest citation, Fields used accelerants to set fire to his home, with his two sons inside. Court documents say K-9 units detected an accelerant on his shoes, at different places in the home, and where the two bodies were found. They also say his statements were not consistent.

Knox County is among than a dozen school systems impacted. This all goes back to the COVID-19 pandemic, when Kentucky school districts were given millions of dollars to pay for everything from school construction to school buses.
