OAKLAND, Calif. (KRON) — Confusion and uncertainty is swirling around the status of Oakland Unified School District Superintendent Kyla Johnson-Trammell. OUSD Board of Education trustees held a closed session meeting Wednesday night. One board member claims a vote was held and passed that will force Oakland’s top public educator out of her job by the end of June. A closed session agenda item stated “public employment discipline, dismissal, release,” but did not name the OUSD employee.

ANTIOCH, Calif. (KRON) — An Antioch neighborhood is mourning the death of a 3-year-old child who was killed in an accidental shooting. The toddler died from a self-inflicted gunshot wound on Tuesday, a 911 caller told the Antioch Police Department. The toddler was in a house on Clearbrook Road near Lone Tree Way when he somehow accessed a loaded gun, police said. Someone called 911 at 6 p.m. Tuesday “reporting that a three-year-old had suffered a self-inflicted gunshot,” APD Lt. Whitaker wrote.

SAN JOSE, Calif. (KRON) — Eight suspected members of a “ruthless” Greenfield-based gang were arrested Wednesday in connection to a “random” fatal shooting in San Jose, police announced Friday. On January 11, the San Jose Police Department responded to a report of a shooting on Loma Verde Drive and found a 27-year-old man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was rushed to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.
Crush Comics in Castro Valley burglarized

CASTRO VALLEY, Calif. (KRON) — A couple of thieves did some after-hours shopping at Crush Comics in Castro Valley over the weekend. And, as you might imagine, they left without paying after burglarizing the place and stealing dozens of rare comics. Just after 3 a.m. Saturday morning, two masked and hooded suspects wearing dark clothing hammered their way into the comic store, heading directly to the wall book section and clearing it out.
