On Friday, Oxford held up its end of the bargain. The Yellow Jackets delivered a statement with a dominating 36-7 win at Jacksonville. It marked Oxford's second straight win over the Golden Eagles, winning last year 34-28.

Cofer's Bearcats got an early start by finishing 2023 with a bang. Weaver scratched and clawed its way to a 47-0 win over Pleasant Valley in the final game of the season. One of the many positives for Weaver heading into next year is knowing star quarterback Kaden Gooden will be back for his senior season.

By Preston Odam, Star Sports Writer SPRING GARDEN - When John Welsh returned an interception for a 53-yard touchdown late in the fourth quarter, the Spring Garden sideline murmured they "were glad John Welsh is on our team."That late-game play was one of several Welsh made to lift Spring Garden past Ragland 42-27 to clinch their 10th straight first-round home playoff game. To make things sweeter, the win Friday came on Senior Night in front of the Panthers faithful.

No. 9 Oxford and No. 2 Clay-Chalkville proved that Friday night with the Class 6A, Region 6 title at stake. The Clay-Chalkville Cougars claimed the championship by beating Oxford 28-14 in a battle of two extremely talented squads. For Oxford, Mason Mims and Nick Richardson shined even with the disappointing loss.

JACKSONVILLE - Jacksonville State soccer seniors Vanessa Mejia, Mya Fregoli and Amanda Chimbima are hoping they've laid the foundation so the Gamecocks can continue to grow. Their legacy is something to consider as they will be honored Sunday before their final home match. Jacksonville State (6-8-2, 1-4-2 Conference USA) will host Middle Tennessee State (4-9-3, 0-5-1). Playing under first-year head coach Sean Fraser, the Gamecocks already have doubled their win total from a year ago.
