Wine lovers will have to find another place to indulge as Greenwood’s South Bend Winery is closing. Owners Larry and Mandy Cozine made a formal announcement Saturday to a crowd of guests and customers. An initial announcement of a potential closing was made in October on Facebook. The couple cited the rising cost of liquor liability insurance as one of the reasons for the closing. They spent the ensuing months trying to find affordable coverage. The decision didn’t come easily, Mandy said.

For some, decorating a Christmas is a tradition and for others, it’s a challenge. For the Festival of Trees, it’s a joy. Lines of people crowded into an auditorium at First Baptist Church in Greenwood to see the handiwork of decorators who embellished trees for Hospice and Palliative Care of the Piedmont. More than 30 trees, from tabletop size to full size, and several wreaths filled the room.

Fun and cheer are sometimes all it takes to get people Uptown. Hundreds of people lined Main Street as the Greenwood Christmas Parade filed by. Blankets, sweaters, jackets and shawls kept a mild chill at bay on Sunday while young children roamed up and down the road, occasionally heeding parents' orders not to walk in the street. Vendors of inflatables, toys, popcorn and cotton candy did a brisk business before parade kicked off. For many families, this was the last event of a long and busy weekend.

ABBEVILLE — Time travel was easy in Abbeville as the Victorian Christmas celebration kicked off. People sported Victorian-age fashions Friday as the two-day event started with hot chocolate and crafts, and ended with candlelight tours of Trinity Episcopalian Church. “We owe a lot of how we celebrate Christmas to the Victorians,” said Keturah Stoltzfus, who wore a period dress at the Abbeville Chamber of Commerce, where a lot of crafts, such as cards, were created.
