NEWPORT – The Pacific Fisheries Management Council has completed the 2025 ocean salmon seasons including waters off the Oregon coast. Recommended salmon seasons are not official until after adoption by the Oregon Fish and Wildlife Commission on Friday, April 18, for waters within three nautical miles of the shore and final approval by the U.S. Secretary of Commerce, which is expected by May 16.

By ALEX BAUMHARDT/Oregon Capital ChronicleSALEM — Portland-based clothing company Wildfang received a shipment from China right before President Donald Trump announced a 152.5% tariff on all Chinese goods. If that order had gone through just 48 hours later than it did, it would have cost Wildfang nearly $180,000 extra because of Trump’s tariffs, chief executive officer Emma Mcilroy told Gov. Tina Kotek during a roundtable at Chemeketa Community College on Wednesday.

Billed as a small grant with big impact, the Oregon State Fire Marshal has announced its 2025 wildfire season staffing grant recipients, which included six Lincoln County fire agencies. The grants are intended to help fire agencies, many of which rely on volunteer crews, to bring on extra firefighters during wildfire season. These seasonal staff boost emergency response for 200 agencies across the state, from wildfire calls to everyday emergencies, according to the fire marshal.
