About 200 soldiers from Fort Bragg remain deployed in the Middle East, a spokeswoman for the command said June 23. The soldiers, part of the 3rd Expeditionary Sustainment Command headquarters, deployed to the U.S. Central Command’s area of responsibility in December. CENTCOM’s area of responsibility spans 21 nations, from northeast Africa across the Middle East to Central and South Asia, and deterring Iran and countering violent extremist activities are among the command priorities.

Several Cumberland County area locations will host Independence Day events, including concerts, fireworks and a parade. Festivities begin June 28th with events in Hope Mills and Fort Bragg. Events continue through July 6, with fireworks displays, a baseball game and family-friendly activities planned. And for more than 40 years, the campus reached the city’s youth, long before they became college students. According to the 1940-1941 Fayetteville State Teachers College catalog, the Newbold Training School was one of three training centers for student teachers and served as an elementary school for Black children in first through fifth grades in Fayetteville.

FORT BRAGG — Barracks projects for Fort Bragg do not appear to be impacted by the Department of Defense’s plans to redirect $1 billion from Army barracks improvement plans to support immigration enforcement at the Southern border. Politico Pro, Federal News Network and Military.com reported last month that the Department of Defense proposed redirecting the funds in draft budget documents sent to Congress.
