A UNIQUE advice and mediation project in the Wee County is helping to prevent homelessness while sustaining tenancies in the private rented sector. The project, which even attracted the attention of Scotland’s housing minister, is being run by Clackmannanshire Citizens Advice Bureau (Clacks CAB) and has seen a wide range of work with private landlords and tenants over the past year.

A CLACKS garden club has impressed the judges by creating positive relationships within the community. Dollar Horticultural and Garden Club, with Dollar in Bloom, was highly commended by environmental charity Keep Scotland Beautiful as part of its Community Engagement Award. It comes just a week after the club scooped two accolades at the annual Beautiful Scotland awards.

AN ALLOA club has received a significant award while welcoming an unprecedented number of new members. Alloa Rotary Club has received The Rotary Citation, the most significant award a club of its kind can achieve. Sent by Rotary international president Gordon McInally, the award recognises the club’s work over the last year. Last year’s president Lindsey Spowage thanked members who helped the club meet all of its goals, indeed surpassing some set at the beginning of 2023-24.

GROUPS from the Wee County helping communities become more climate and nature friendly have been recognised at an awards event this week. Dollar Horticultural and Garden Club with Dollar in Bloom as well as Alloa in Bloom both scooped a number accolades at the annual Beautiful Scotland awards. The Dollar contingent won the Small Town Award and the Community Horticulture Award while receiving a Gold certificate.

AN AWARD-WINNING ice cream parlour in the Wee County is looking to expand. Tillicoultry’s Penny Licks, which opened in the summer of 2022 after owner Stephen Sloper started making ice cream as part of a lockdown project, is looking to expand into retail units over the next few years. It comes as Stephen continues to receive support from Business Gateway, which has supported the growth of the start-up which has fast become a staple in the community.

2 1/1 PUPILS at a Clacks nursery and at a primary school are benefiting from outstanding science learning opportunities thanks to efforts to earn a STEM award. Sauchie ELC and Tillicoultry PS have both achieved a full STEM Nation Award as part of an Education Scotland scheme. Staff in Sauchie were praised for encouraging learners to become STEM Ambassadors and deliver STEM experiences to peers with educator support.
