A man's body was found Thursday morning at Woodlawn Lake, according to San Antonio police. A passerby saw what appeared to be a torso sticking out of the water and called police about 8 a.m., according to the San Antonio Fire Department. A fire rescue team deployed a boat in the water and recovered the body of an unidentified man. The body showed evidence of trauma. Authorities believe the body may have washed upstream into the lake after storms this week.

A man is in critical condition after he was shot multiple times the Alamo Ranch area. The shooting occurred at about 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday in the parking lot of a 54th Street restaurant, 5722 West Loop 1604 North, according to San Antonio police. The 29-year-old man was shot as he was leaving the restaurant with his girlfriend and his young child, who was between 1 and 2 years old, when they were leaving the restaurant, a sergeant on the scene said.

Bexar County jail administrators recently received some good news - a rarity for them. In early January, they learned the near West Side complex was deemed to be back in compliance with state jail standards after falling out in October and November last year. Yet, they're still struggling with a shortage of jailers, frequent overcrowding and an alarming number of suicides and health crises resulting in death. The 36-year-old facility is in desperate need of repairs and upgrades.

A former Russian mercenary who allegedly crossed the Rio Grande illegally has been arrested by Border Patrol in Roma, according to a Valley Central report. Timur Praliev is accused of trudging across the Rio Grande River carrying two passports, $4,000 in cash and 60,000 pesos. He is also believed to be a part of an organization affiliated with the Russian government. Border Patrol charged Praliev with illegally entering the country, a federal misdemeanor. He has pleaded guilty to the charge.
