After a few awkward moments, a Wellington supermarket has taken to social media to introduce a staff member who stood out in a special way. Abel Christie, a 15-year-old autistic young man with an intellectual disability, started working at New World Porirua a month ago, helping pack groceries. "Abel was incredibly eager, chatty, and loved interacting with people," said Tracy Shaw, Business and People Development Manager at New World Porirua.

Members of New Zealand's Latin American community are shocked and offended by comments made in Parliament this week by high-ranking NZ First MPs.During a debate on Tuesday, Shane Jones yelled "send the Mexicans home" across the floor. Winston Peters then told Green MPs Lawrence Xu-Nan and Francisco Hernandez to "show some gratitude" for being in New Zealand. Both Peters and Jones doubled down on their comments in the days that followed.

Auckland's iconic SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium is celebrating four decades, and is asking visitors to help tell its story. The aquarium, the brainchild of marine archaeologist and diver Kelly Tarlton, opened in 1985. It gets over 400,000 visitors annually. The aquarium showcases more than 30 live animal exhibits in habitat displays, including the world's largest Antarctic penguin colony exhibit, and underwater viewing tunnels.

SEA LIFE Kelly Tarlton's Aquarium in Auckland is buzzing with excitement after three gentoo penguin chicks joined the colony. The chicks are part of the aquarium's long-term breeding program. Still nestled under the care of their parents, the newcomers have grown rapidly - gentoo chicks nearly match their parents' size within just a few weeks. Senior penguin keeper Jessica Kennedy said the arrivals were thrilling for the aquarium's breeding programme.

Mental health patients in New Zealand face significantly worse experiences in primary healthcare compared to those without mental health conditions, according to a national study conducted by the University of Otago. The study, published in the New Zealand Medical Journal, analysed responses from a Health Quality and Safety Commission survey that asked about people's experiences with general practice services.
